The Premier gives you the power of Smart System 20/20 in an integrated All-In-One 19” LCD and computer system that effortlessly installs in the most modern of offices. With eETDRS, Linear Contrast Gratings, and a variety of charts, rich multimedia and integration with the leading auto-phoropters, Premier provides all of the power of Smart System 20/20 in a easy-to-install integrated computer and monitor.
The only significant difference between the Smart System® 2020 and the Smart System® Premier is the hardware. The 20/20 system utilizes a separate LCD and Computer whereas the Premier system is an integrated All-In-One LCD and Computer.
Custom Software
The Smart System® 20/20 visual acuity software is custom written by our own software developers, a unique feature in the industry. With input from leading practitioners and leveraging the latest multimedia technologies, 20/20 provides accurate and reliable performance. The robust design allows for easy upgrades for future enhancements and gives the user the flexibility to quickly change the layout of the remote control, key pad or our new wireless tablet to accommodate specific needs. The calibration and set-up screens are clear, easy to use and flexible to adjust to any exam room environment. Seamless integration with EMR allows the use of just one computer in the exam room! The System has been issued a provisional patent and is copyrighted.
Auto-phoroptor Integration

M&S Technologies has established key business partnerships with Marco Ophthalmic and Topcon Medical Systems. This technology integration allows you to seamlessly interface both the Marco TRS and Topcon CV system with any M&S Smart System. You can now fully integrate Visual Acuity, EMR, Patient Education and the Marco TRS interface all on one computer saving you time and money. Easily control all the unique features of the M&S Smart System directly from the Marco TRS LCD control panel, including Lea SYMBOLS, eETDRS or ATS Protocols, patient education, and internal marketing videos and advanced contrast sensitivity testing.
Glare Testing
Optional. Provides a consistent technology for measuring the impact of glare on a patient’s vision. Carefully calibrated against existing methods of testing, M&S Technologies’ Glare Testing provides consistency that can’t be found in rechargeable incandescent systems. So when your patient complains their vision is significantly reduced in bright sunshine or driving at night, simply turn on the glare function to simulate that effect.
Integrate with Eyemaginations & EyeMotion, Patient Education Videos

Seamless integration with the industry leaders in patient education and education based marketing. All of which is programmed and controlled by any one of our input devices. The current direction of health-care will force the industry to do more with less and this is where patient education and education based marketing play a vital role. Regardless of the patient chair time, patients need to be educated on various types of lenses for glass use or the large number of multi-focal IOL’s available today. Educate your patients and increase revenues.
Protocol One™
Create user defined protocols or simple chart sequencing with ease allowing repeatable and consistent vision testing from visit to visit and patient to patient. Create protocols by age group, pathology or separate protocols for each doctor within the practice. Protocol One allows the clinician to step through a customized, pre-selected series of charts and tests with simplicity. Create your own from all available optotypes, including the exclusive LEA symbols, specifying multiple or single lines, any size progression or any combination.
Fully Programmable Wireless Hand Controller
Direct access to any test, optotype size or fixation in a wireless, non-directional remote control. Our proven remotes stand up to years of daily use. All buttons are fully programmable so that the control can be customized to the preference of the Doctor or clinician.
ATS & eETDRS
The published Electronic ETDRS and ATS protocols, validated at the JAEB Center in Tampa, Florida, is available on Smart System 20/20 and provides expanded utility within the examination room. Click this URL Link: http://www.ajo.com/article/S0002-9394%2802%2901825-1/abstract eETDRS allows for validated visual acuity testing to further increase the utilization of the same room and equipment when participating in clinical trials. The eETDRS has a high-test, re-test reliability compared with standard eETDRS testing. The protocol is driven via easy to use on-screen prompting. This System has advantages over standard ETDRS testing by automatically retaining testing results and eliminating technician bias.
Electronic Low Vision Testing (eLVT)
Over 2 years in development, the eLVT™ system was co-produced and engineered by Dr. Ian Bailey of UC Berkeley and M&S Technologies. It utilizes the Berkeley Rudimentary Low Vision Test and extends the eETDRS protocol to include tumbling E’s, linear sine gratings and black\white discrimination.
Technology Integration ![]()
M&S Technologies leads the industry in the integration of technologies in the exam room by partnering with other leading companies in the industry. Instrument companies such as Marco, Topcon and Haag-Streit all understand the value of partnering with the industry leader in computer based LCD projectors. From seamless integration between the Smart System® and Marco and Topcon auto-phoroptors to integration with Haag-Streit in the “Exam Room of the Future”, M&S continues to lead the industry.
Many of our competitors claim to “interface” with Marco and Topcon but yet M&S is the only company that has a true partnership with these industry leaders. With the explosion of technology in the practice, do you really want to invest in companies that claim they “integrate” or do you want to invest in a company that has partnerships where technology is updated, cross training takes place and information exchanged? And, if you ever have a problem, finger-pointing between M&S and our partner companies will never happen.
For 21 years M&S has been serving the eye-care industry and these industry leaders have selected to partner with M&S over every other producer of computerized vision testing systems. There must be a reason.
For many years contrast sensitivity has been the topic of conversation among eye care professionals. Our computerized vision testing system gives the user several methods of testing for contrast sensitivity functionality.
Sine Wave Grating Contrast
M&S Technologies in partnership with Illinois College of Optometry, commissioned a study to determine normative data points to compare test results against a normal population. Standard in Smart System 20/20, our new contrast testing system allows the clinician to screen for contrast function and produce a graph at the end of the screening charting subject data relative to normative data. With a simple pre-determined screening protocol it allows efficient testing of the contrast function. Presenting spatial frequencies of 18, 12, 6, 3 and 1.5 Cycles/Degree with Contrast levels from 100% - 0.8% this easy to administer test provides a great method for monitoring CSF, whether to monitor cataracts or assess quality of vision. Screening protocol is about 3 minutes and is can be integrated with Glare Testing.
Letter Contrast Testing
Validated, Peer Reviewed and Published Journal of Cornea & Refractive Surgery, November 2004, Texas Tech University. Also standard on the Smart System 20/20, is letter contrast testing where the clinician simply identifies the visual acuity threshold, increases the size by two lines and then switches to contrast testing. At that point the clinician can then identify the CSF threshold by following normal refracting methods and reducing the contrast percent until the patient can no longer identify the letters.
Landolt Ring & ETDRS Contrast Testing
Both letter and symbol sets are standard on the Smart System 20/20 for contrast sensitivity screening. Following the same procedures as listed above, the 20/20 system gives you flexibility in selection of letter sets that are not found in any other LCD chart projector system.
